Bringing a Sense of Garden Calm to a Restaurant District

A Renewal Display Featuring Faux Greenery to Enhance Comfort and Ambience
|GRAND FRONT OSAKA B1F|

In basement-level dining zones of urban commercial complexes, it’s common to encounter issues such as low ceilings and a confined atmosphere. Even with steady foot traffic, these areas often lack a welcoming feel, limiting dwell time. At GRAND FRONT OSAKA’s B1F restaurant area, the key design challenge was how to create a space that encourages people to linger. INCROCCE addressed this by designing a nature-infused display plan using faux greenery, achieving a dining environment that balances the urban underground setting with a sense of calm and refreshment.

Property Details and Spatial Concept

The B1F restaurant district at GRAND FRONT OSAKA was renovated under the concept of “Urban Natural.” The goal was to transform the basement space—typically perceived as confined and impersonal—into a warm and inviting environment where nature and urbanity could coexist.

Interior Design Challenges

  • Mitigating the closed-in feel and low ceilings of a basement-level space

  • Creating a unified greenery design across the entire floor

  • Using only faux greenery to meet hygiene requirements in a food zone

  • Designing an experience not focused on visual dominance, but on gentle ambience that resonates while walking through

Our Proposal

INCROCCE envisioned a “garden-like rest environment” for the entire restaurant zone. Layered arrangements of faux greenery were installed on walls and ceiling edges, accompanied by café-themed accessories to enhance the story of the space. We aimed to craft a mood where visitors could intuitively feel “food, aroma, and natural warmth.” The design included subtle thematic variations across different sections to maintain freshness and engagement throughout the journey.

Installation and Technical Execution

Materials|Faux greenery (vines, leafy plants, planters), wooden crates, antique-style props
Placement Strategy|Decorations around structural columns, integrated into wall shelves and furniture
Zoning Concepts|Garden Terrace Zone, Café Goods Zone, Mixed Natural Materials & Greenery Zone
Visual Flow|A rhythmic sequence of greenery created along both sides of the corridor to guide movement and encourage moments of pause

Results and Impact

Facility operators reported that “the space now feels bright and comfortable—unlike what you’d expect from a basement.”
Visitors were frequently seen stopping to take photos or rest, creating more engagement.
The positive outcome of the B1F renovation led to additional design commissions for other floors, including display enhancements on the 6th floor of the same facility.
