Experience Comfort and Discovery in a Strollable Terrace

A Story-Driven Display with Faux Greenery
|GRAND FRONT OSAKA 6F|

In large commercial complexes, the quality of rest spaces directly affects visitor circulation and dwell time. However, shared areas often become characterless “corridors” and are overlooked in design. For the 6th‑floor rest area of GRAND FRONT OSAKA, the theme of a “strollable terrace” was selected to offer both relaxation and opportunities for discovery. INCROCCE crafted three narrative display concepts to elevate this space into a memorable destination worth visiting and lingering in.

Property Details and Spatial Concept

The renewed 6th-floor rest area embraces a “strollable terrace” concept—a space where greenery and books coexist in harmony. Designed as an “urban oasis,” it blends relaxation, learning, and comfort to create a compelling rest environment in the heart of the city.

Interior Design Challenges

  • Transforming an unmemorable corridor into a space that encourages stopping and lingering

  • Serving a diverse user base—from business professionals to tourists—with varied needs

  • Balancing the playful yet functional needs of a commercial facility while supporting the central theme

Our Proposal

Three narrative display zones were created to support the “stroll terrace” concept:

  • Relaxing Café Terrace: Featuring garden accessories, planters, and faux greenery to evoke the calm of outdoor café seating and a sense of relaxed pause.

  • Educational Workshop Space: Incorporating wood frames and craft items, encouraging touch, interaction, and inspiration—suggesting a space for hands-on creativity or hobbies.

  • Comforting Book Nook: Styled with books and decorative items to evoke a cozy reading corner. Shelving above bookcases and around columns was designed to create visual openness and a sense of welcome.

Installation and Technical Execution

Materials: Faux greenery, wooden frames, antique props, coffee-table books
Placement: Over bookshelf tops, wall-mounted shelves, behind counters, and around columns
Composition Ratio: Approximately 40% greenery, 60% repurposed materials and interior accessories
Styling Strategy: Unified color palette across zones, with distinct thematic character to encourage movement and discovery
Green Placement Intention: Designed to enhance both comfort and depth, using artificial foliage to create a sense of presence

Results and Impact

The client praised the space, noting that it achieved “comfort that cannot be created by functionality alone.” Visitors said things like, “I stopped by unintentionally but ended up staying a while,” and “It really feels like a café.” Facility operators also noted an increase in photo-taking behavior among visitors, signaling higher engagement. The project has since influenced future space presentation strategies for the facility.
